The Quantum MOSFET Distortion project is a clone of the Ibanez MT-10 Mostortion MOS-FET Distortion pedal, which was released in the early 1990s and discontinued shortly after. The MT-10 Mostortion is a rare and expensive low-to-mid-gain overdrive pedal that gained popularity in the Nashville music scene.
What sets the MT-10 Mostortion apart from other Ibanez pedals is its unique feature of having a 3-band EQ tonestack. This was uncommon at the time, and it wasn’t until the 2010s that amp-like pedals with similar tonestacks started to become more popular, thanks to companies like Wampler.
The Quantum MOSFET Distortion project aims to faithfully replicate the original MT-10 Mostortion, but with one additional modification. It includes a switch that allows users to choose between different clipping diodes. The original pedal used two stacked diodes in each direction, resulting in a high clipping threshold. However, with the added clipping switch, users can also select one 1N914 diode in each direction for a lower threshold (similar to a Tube Screamer) or LEDs for a higher threshold.
In addition to the Guv’nor and Shredmaster, the MT-10 Mostortion was one of the first pedals to feature a full 3-band tonestack. This makes it a unique piece in Ibanez’s history, as they have not released any other pedals with this feature.
