The Hooch Drive is a distortion pedal inspired by the classic Moonshine and Tube Screamer pedals. It features an on-board charge pump that boosts the voltage from 9V to around 18V, providing more headroom and a louder output. The pedal offers two standard clipping modes, but you also have the option to remove the clipping diodes for a fully open boost mode, which is even louder. However, the manufacturer advises caution when using this mode. One of the standout features of this pedal is its clean blend, which is particularly appealing to bass players. It’s important to note that the original version of this pedal uses rare diodes for one of the clipping options, which the manufacturer does not supply. However, they assure that after checking the data sheets, there is no significant difference in sound when using the supplied 1N4148 diodes.
