The Andromeda Deluxe is an updated version of the Nordland ODR-C, which itself is an adaptation of the Nobels ODR-1 overdrive pedal. The ODR-1 was originally released in 1992 as a budget alternative to the Tube Screamer, and it gained popularity over the years for its unique circuit design.
In 2019, the original circuit designer, Kai Tachibana, revisited the ODR-1 and created the ODR-C Custom Overdrive under his own Nordland brand. The ODR-C improved upon the build quality of the original and added three new controls: a low cut to adjust the bass tone, a midrange control for boosting or cutting, and an “overdrive de-compress” control that gradually adds higher-threshold clipping diodes.
The Andromeda Deluxe is based on the audio path of the ODR-C but removes some of the additional features like polarity protection and LED dimmer circuit. However, in terms of sound, the Andromeda Deluxe and the ODR-C are said to be identical.
Overall, the Andromeda Deluxe is a high-quality, handmade pedal that offers the same great sound as the original ODR-C. However, if you can find an original ODR-C, it is considered a fantastic piece of engineering and worth considering.
