The Baxandall Big Muff Pi is a modified version of the classic Big Muff Pi fuzz pedal. While the original Big Muff Pi has a scooped tone control, the Baxandall version features a Baxandall tone stack, which provides a different tonal flavor. Although technically it is a James tone stack since it is passive, it is referred to as Baxandall for simplicity. The values used in the Baxandall tone stack are based on the discontinued Catalinbread Manx Loaghtan with a slight tweak. However, these values can be adjusted to suit personal preferences.Kits are available for various versions of the Big Muff Pi, including the 70’s (3rd) version, Green Russian, Black Russian, Civil War Russian, Tall Font Green Russian, Ram’s Head, Triangle, Violet Ram’s Head, V3 79#2 (Mascis), Creamy Dreamer, Stoned Cleric, Elk Sustainer (NPN Version), and Mascis model. The Mascis model does not have the tone bypass feature found on the original, and the Creamy Dreamer does not include the excessive power filtering of the original. For more detailed information on the different versions of the Big Muff Pi, Kit Rae’s Big Muff Pie page is recommended as a fantastic resource.
