This project is a Germanium overdrive pedal that can produce a range of sounds from a gritty treble boost reminiscent of the Rangemaster to a rattling overdriven sound reminiscent of a vintage Plexi turned to 11. It is inspired by the discontinued Crimson Device from EQD. The circuit is simple, starting with a JFET buffer that goes into a germanium transistor, two hard clipping germanium diodes, and a straightforward filter. This combination produces an open-sounding overdrive full of harmonics and raw grit. It works well with both humbuckers and single coils, cutting through the densest mixes. The pedal has three controls: Gain, Tone, and Level. The Gain control adjusts the amount of overdrive, from a raspy Rangemaster tone at lower settings to the grit of a vintage Plexi when maxed out. The Tone control adjusts the frequency response of the pedal, allowing the user to shape the sound. The Level control adjusts the output volume of the pedal.
