Schematics, circuits, PCBs and veroboards for guitar effects pedals.
The Crusher is an analog bit crusher pedal that is based on the Experimentalists Anonymous Bit Crusher circuit. Unlike most bit crushers, which are digital, this pedal uses Op-Amp and FET components to emulate the downsampling effect. The results can be unpredictable but can also be very rewarding. The circuit was designed by Colin Raffel of Experimentalists Anonymous, but some component tweaks have been made to make it work more consistently. Colin describes it as a ‘sample and hold circuit, which is an analog sample rate reducer.’It’s important to note that this pedal is not a clean or quiet effect. Due to the circuitry that produces the effect, there is a noticeable whining noise when no signal is being put into it. The frequency of the whine changes when you turn the knob, and it can help determine which key the effect will work best with at a particular setting. This noise is part of the charm of the pedal, so you should embrace it or avoid using this pedal if it’s not your cup of tea.
