The Dr Boogie Distortion is a high-gain distortion pedal based on the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Solo head. It is an emulation created by ElectraTabs at DIYStompBoxes, who made some modifications to the original Dr Boogie design. To ensure optimal performance and minimize noise issues, the circuit board traces have been spaced out. The pedal is housed in a 1590BB format enclosure, which provides enough space for the high-gain circuitry. The six pots (potentiometers) are mounted directly onto the PCB (printed circuit board), ensuring a sturdy and reliable connection. The PCB also includes pads for both through-hole and surface-mount FETs (field-effect transistors), allowing for flexibility in component selection. However, the kits currently only include through-hole parts. While the original design uses J201 transistors for all the FETs, the Dr Boogie Distortion has been modified to use 2N5457 transistors for a couple of them. This change results in a more pleasant and manageable pedal.Once the circuit is assembled, it requires precise trimmer adjustment to bias the FETs correctly. Therefore, a multimeter is necessary to ensure the optimal performance of the pedal.
