Durandal Transparent Drive by Aion FX

The Durandal Transparent Drive is a modified version of the King Tone Blues Power pedal, which itself is an adaptation of the Timmy transparent drive pedal. The Durandal adds tonal flexibility with its “Edge” switch for adjusting treble response and an internal DIP switch for selecting different midrange positions.

Interestingly, King Tone tried to conceal the fact that the Blues Power is based on the Timmy circuit. They added a decoy transistor on the PCB with all three legs connected to ground, which was not present in the earliest versions of the pedal. Additionally, there are four diodes in the second op-amp stage for clipping, although they have minimal effect due to the low gain of that stage.

The Durandal Transparent Drive is essentially a direct clone of the Blues Power, including the decoy transistor. However, the transistor can be omitted without any impact on the pedal’s functionality.
