Equinox Amp Overdrive by Aion FX

The Equinox Amp Overdrive project is a clone of the Marshall Guv’nor and Drivemaster pedals, which were popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. These pedals were known for their low-to-mid-gain amp-like overdrive and 3-band tone control.

The Guv’nor was one of the first overdrive pedals to feature a 3-band tone control, allowing users to shape their tone with bass, midrange, and treble knobs. Although it resembles an amp tonestack, it actually utilizes technology similar to the Big Muff tone control. The interaction between the three controls is more pronounced than what you would typically find on an amp.

The Equinox Amp Overdrive faithfully replicates the original Guv’nor and Drivemaster pedals, but with an added modification. It includes a switch that allows users to select different clipping diodes. The original pedals used LEDs for high clipping thresholds, but with the clipping switch, you can also choose between two 1N914 diodes in each direction (similar to the Bluesbreaker pedal) or one 1N914 diode in each direction (similar to the Shredmaster pedal).

Overall, the Equinox Amp Overdrive project offers guitarists the opportunity to recreate the classic Marshall Guv’nor and Drivemaster tones, while also providing additional flexibility with the clipping diode switch.
