Based On: BOSS FA-1 FET Amplifier

Fireaxe by Madbeanpedals

The FA-1 is a vintage FET amplifier by Boss that was originally designed to be used with a pocket amplifier or clipped onto a guitar strap. It has gained popularity for its sweet boost and is now being reformatted into a pedal version called the Fireaxe. The Fireaxe uses a single dual op-amp instead of the original two chips and makes some small adjustments to the circuit. It also adds new features such as a diode clipping option and a master volume output, allowing it to function as a low gain overdrive. The controls on the Fireaxe include a level knob for setting the clean output gain, bass and treble knobs for adjusting the tone, a subs switch for increasing bass, a clip switch for adding asymmetrical clipping, and a volume knob for controlling the output volume when the clip switch is active. When the clip switch is off, the volume knob should be set to maximum for the stock FA-1 behavior. The Fireaxe offers a modern pedalboard-friendly version of the FA-1 with added versatility and improved functionality.
