The FUZZ DUO is a versatile fuzz pedal that allows you to switch between low-gain germanium and high-gain silicon transistors, or use a combination of both for a unique fuzz tone. The BIAS control lets you adjust the voltage and gain structure of the fuzz, while the revised FILTER control balances between separate bass and treble filters. The pedal uses hand-selected germanium and silicon transistors and works well when daisy-chained on a power supply.
The FUZZ DUO was developed to give users the ability to choose between different transistors, as they greatly impact the tone of the fuzz. The pedal has undergone several revisions over the years to improve usability, reduce noise, increase volume output, and enhance the tonal flexibility of the FILTER knob.
The controls on the FUZZ DUO include:
– FUZZ: Sets the gain of the second transistor stage, allowing for a wide range of fuzz saturation. Rolling back the guitar’s volume knob can clean up the sound.
– BIAS: Adjusts the voltage and gain structure of the fuzz. Finding the sweet spot creates a sustaining fuzz, while pulling it back can create glitchy tones.
– LEVEL: Sets the output volume, with the updated output section providing plenty of volume.
– FILTER: Controls dual EQ filters in the fuzz circuit. It can boost bass when fully counterclockwise, boost treble at 12:00, and boost mids when cranked.
– TR1 and TR2: Select between different transistors in the first and second gain stages. Germanium transistors offer a smoother fuzz tone that cleans up well with the guitar’s volume knob.
– FEEDBACK: An internal trimpot allows for further customization of the pedal’s sound.
Overall, the FUZZ DUO offers a wide range of fuzz tones and flexibility in shaping the sound with its various controls and transistor options.
