Fuzz Face – Basic by Fuzzdog

The Fuzz Face – Basic is a simplified version of the classic Fuzz Face pedal. It is a highly sought-after fuzz pedal that has been used on countless recordings. The PCB (printed circuit board) included in this kit allows for easy assembly of either NPN or PNP versions of the pedal. It’s important to note that the PNP version will require an isolated power supply or battery, as there is no onboard voltage inverter. However, NPN builds can be used with any other standard polarity circuits on a power daisy chain. There are several versions of the Fuzz Face – Basic available with this PCB. The first version combines Russian and AC121/5/8 or AC188 (PNP Germanium) transistors. The second version uses 2N404 (PNP Germanium) transistors, and the third version uses BC108 (NPN Silicon) transistors. It’s worth mentioning that the PCB does not support the use of ‘cans,’ which refers to certain types of transistors. The basic circuit comes in two flavors: Original and Roger Mayer Hendrix Modded. The Mayer modded version has a slightly higher output level, which is recommended for germanium versions that tend to have lower gain levels. One notable feature of this kit is the option to use a Reverse Log (C) taper pot for the fuzz control on all versions. This type of potentiometer provides a more even and responsive control over the fuzz intensity.Additionally, there are extra pads on the PCB for mounting non-standard pinouts for Russian transistors. This allows for easy customization and experimentation with different transistor options. For more detailed information on building the Fuzz Face – Basic, please refer to the provided build documentation.
