The Germanium Percolator is a take on the famous and mysterious InterFax HP-1 Harmonic Percolator. This board allows you to build two different versions of the same pedal: the Stock version, which is wild, raw, and hard to control, and the Albini version, which is smoother and more controlled. It features an additional toggle switch to select between the stock diodes and some extra of your choice. The circuit passes even order harmonics while suppressing odd-order harmonics, creating a pleasing sound. The 2N404 germanium transistor is almost unobtainable, so other germanium alternatives are being tested. The controls of the pedal are Balance, which controls the output level, and Harmonics, which is the input gain or distortion control. The Diode Switch allows you to select between the stock 1n695 and your choice of clipping diodes. With the Harmonics knob all the way up, the pedal can get really compressed as well as noisy. As the gain gets higher, it gets a little unruly and starts to get the microphonic behavior.
