The Hipster is a fuzz pedal based on the classic Fuzz Face™ design. It uses NPN transistors with a negative ground configuration. The 2019 version of the pedal has some additional tweaks for added versatility.
The controls on the Hipster include:
1. VOL: This control adjusts the overall output volume of the pedal.
2. FUZZ: This control varies the amount of fuzz effect, from minimum to maximum.
3. BFCKE: The “Beefcake” switch has two positions. When in the left position, it reduces some of the excessive bass in the Fuzz Face and adds a hint of “cocked wah” tone. When in the right position, it uses the stock Fuzz Face configuration.
4. BIAS: This control sets the bias voltage for the Q2 collector.
5. BOOST: This control increases the overall volume output of the pedal and adds some extra saturation to the fuzz effect.
These controls allow the user to shape the tone and intensity of the fuzz effect, as well as adjust the overall output volume. The Beefcake switch provides additional tonal options, while the Bias control allows for fine-tuning of the pedal’s response. The Boost control adds extra volume and saturation for a more aggressive fuzz sound.
Overall, the Hipster is a versatile fuzz pedal that offers a range of tonal possibilities, from classic Fuzz Face tones to more unique and experimental sounds.
