Karkadann Dynamic Overdrive by Aion FX

The Karkadann Dynamic Overdrive is a drive pedal that is based on the classic Tube Screamer, specifically the Way Huge Green Rhino Mark II. This pedal is an updated version of the original Green Rhino that was first released in 1996. The Green Rhino was Way Huge’s best-selling pedal, but only 419 units were produced during the company’s active years between 1992 and 1999.

In 2008, Jeorge Tripps, the designer of the Green Rhino, joined Dunlop and they decided to revive the Way Huge brand. The Mark II version of the Green Rhino was designed by Jeorge and released in 2011. It was followed by the Mark IV in 2016. Interestingly, there is no record of a Mark III, so it is unclear if it was an unreleased prototype or if the numbering was skipped.

The Mark IV version of the Green Rhino dropped the Curve control found in the previous versions and introduced a new 500 Hz control. It also included a toggle switch to drop both the 100 Hz and 500 Hz EQ stages, allowing users to achieve the sound of the original 1990s version.

It is worth noting that the original Green Rhino was called the “Green Rhino Overdrive II” to differentiate it from the company’s other overdrive pedal, the Red Llama. During the 1990s, there was only one version of the Green Rhino, and it was always referred to as the Overdrive II. However, the Mark II version that came fifteen years later is different from the original.

The Karkadann Dynamic Overdrive is a direct adaptation of the Green Rhino Mark II circuit and does not feature any modifications.
