Mangler by Madbeanpedals

The Mangler is a fuzz pedal that combines elements of the classic Fuzz Face with other features. It includes a voltage inverter on the PCB, allowing it to be powered by a standard center-tip negative 9v power supply, simplifying the setup for newer builders.

To properly bias the PNP germanium transistors used in the Mangler, Smallbear Electronics provides tested transistors with recommended resistor values. These can be used instead of the values listed in the BOM (Bill of Materials) for the pedal.

The Mangler has three controls:

1. VOL: This control adjusts the overall output volume of the pedal.

2. FUZZ: This control adjusts the amount of fuzz. It is recommended to use a reverse audio (1kC) potentiometer for improved performance. However, turning the control counterclockwise can result in a darker and muddier fuzz tone. The most useful settings are typically found in the second half or two-thirds of the control’s range. Additionally, the fuzz can be further controlled by lowering the volume on the guitar.

3. BIAS: This trimpot sets the optimal operational voltage for the Q2 collector.

Overall, the Mangler is a versatile fuzz pedal with updated features and controls that allow for a wide range of fuzz tones.
