The 2020 version of the Mudbunny has been redesigned to accommodate different sized enclosures and bypass methods. It includes a Tone Bypass switch that not only defeats the tone circuit but also changes the character of the distortion. The knee of the filter created by the cap/voltage divider in the audio path can be adjusted using a DIP switch. This switch also reduces the volume of the tone bypass to match the tone circuit when engaged.
The default version of the Mudbunny is based on the Ram’s Head Big Muff, but there are multiple variations that can be built. The project includes a spreadsheet with different Bill of Materials (BOMs) for various versions. The Kitrae Big Muff pages are also recommended for a complete history of the effect and additional BOM options.
The controls on the Mudbunny include:
– VOL: Adjusts the total output volume.
– SUS: Controls the amount of distortion.
– TONE: CCW position activates a high-pass filter, CW position activates a low-pass filter, with a wide range in between.
– TB: The Tone Bypass switch removes the tone circuit and emphasizes the mid-range.
– DIP: A two-position DIP switch that offers three options for the bypassed tone. The 4n7 option creates a “stuck wah” type tone, the 10n option provides a balanced sound between mids and bass, and combining both options (about 15n) produces a more bass-heavy tone.
