Schematics, circuits, PCBs and veroboards for guitar effects pedals.
The Naos Classic Overdrive is a pedal that combines the best features of the Tube Screamer and Big Muff pedals. It is based on the Yamaha OD-10MII, which was released in 1987 as part of Yamaha’s “Sound Device Series.” The OD-10MII is similar to the Fuzztone, a DIY project designed by Dan Coggins for Electronics Today International in 1993.
While the OD-10MII and Fuzztone have some similarities in their schematics, they sound different due to differences in component values and clipping diode arrangements. It is unlikely that Dan referenced the OD-10MII when designing the Fuzztone, as the basic building blocks of the circuit are fairly standard.
The Naos Classic Overdrive is a faithful adaptation of the original Yamaha unit, with the only modification being the replacement of the flip-flop bypass with standard true bypass. This ensures that the pedal does not color the tone when it is not engaged.
Overall, the Naos Classic Overdrive offers a simple yet effective drive circuit that combines the best elements of the Tube Screamer and Big Muff pedals, making it a versatile and powerful tool for guitarists.
