Poindexter by Madbeanpedals

The Poindexter is a fuzz pedal based on the popular Octane2™ style fuzz circuit. It is a modified version of the Superfuzz with added tone control. The circuit uses a phase splitter and a differential pair to produce the octave up tone. The tone control is a simple roll-off, with the brightest setting being when it is turned fully counterclockwise. The pedal uses readily available transistors and has a good sound with them.

There is one minor modification required for this project. In the previous version from 2015, 1uF film coupling caps were used instead of the original 10uF electrolytic caps. However, after building another one with the 10uF caps, it was found that it sounded slightly better. The 10uF cap version has a slightly squishier sound and retains more low-end definition. The octave up effect also sounds more pronounced. Therefore, it is recommended to build the pedal with the 10uF caps.

Overall, the Poindexter is a reissued fuzz pedal that offers a unique octave up tone. It is based on a proven schematic and has been updated with a new layout. The pedal is easy to build and uses common components. The tone control allows for adjustment of the brightness of the sound. The 10uF caps version is recommended for a slightly improved sound.
