The Prognosticator is a delay pedal based on the EHX Stereo Memory Man™. It uses a single MN3005 BBD and has a maximum delay time of around 300ms. While it is not a true stereo pedal, it creates a wider audio bed by copying the delay output, inverting the signal, and sending it to a separate output. This method enhances the spatial effect when used with two amps. The pedal also has extended modulation control, allowing for fast chorus effects at low delay settings. It can still be used as a mono output if only one amp is being used.
The design of the Prognosticator includes a charge pump for operation with a 9v supply and an active buffered output for bypass. These changes improve the pedal’s performance and compatibility with stereo setups and multiple pedals in the signal chain.
The audio controls on the Prognosticator include DELAY, FDBK, BLEND, and RATE/DEPTH. DELAY sets the total delay time, FDBK controls the number of repeats, BLEND adjusts the volume of the delay output with the clean signal, and RATE/DEPTH sets the speed and amount of delay modulation.
The biasing controls on the Prognosticator include BIAS, BAL, GAIN, and CLOCK. BIAS sets the input bias voltage of the BBD, BAL balances the two outputs from the BBD, GAIN adjusts the amount of gain recovery from the BBD output, and CLOCK fine-tunes the maximum allowable delay time.
Overall, the Prognosticator is a versatile delay pedal with stereo capabilities and extensive control over delay and modulation parameters.
