The Protean Dual Pedal is a versatile effects pedal that combines the tones of the Protein / ODR-1 and the Blues Breaker. The pedal features two channels, the GREEN channel on the right and the BLUE channel on the left. The GREEN channel is based on the Nobels ODR-1 circuit with some small tweaks. The makers of the dual pedal have chosen to reduce the gain slightly for a more balanced tone. However, there is an option to build the pedal with the original untweaked circuit for those who prefer more gain. Additionally, there is an option to add a bass control to the GREEN channel, which helps to balance the bottom-heavy nature of the ODR-1 circuit. The BLUE channel is based on the Blues Breaker circuit, with some modifications to the builder’s taste. One notable change is an increase in the output level, which provides a nice boost in volume. Both channels can be individually switched on and off, allowing for versatile tone combinations. When both channels are engaged, the ODR-1 circuit pushes the Blues Breaker circuit, resulting in a dynamic and expressive tone. The pedal has been designed with ease of use in mind. The main PCBs connect to the footswitch daughterboards using header pins, minimizing the amount of wiring required. However, the GREEN channel has many components, so it is recommended to use 3mm resistors and have good eyesight to read the color codes.Overall, the Protean Dual Pedal offers a wide range of blues and Nashville tones in a convenient dual circuit format.
