Rift Octave Fuzz by Aion FX

The Rift Octave Fuzz is a recreation of the iconic Univox Superfuzz, known for its untamed fuzz tones and octave-up overtone. Originally developed by Shin-ei in the late 1960s, the FY-6 circuit was rebadged for various brands, with the Univox Superfuzz being the most well-known and revered version.

The Superfuzz utilizes a phase splitter and a differential pair to emphasize the upper octave, similar to the fOXX Tone Machine. However, it differs in using active transistors instead of diodes to rectify the signal, giving it a unique character.

The Rift Octave Fuzz adds a modification to the original circuit, providing more flexibility. While the original unit only had a tone switch to toggle between two presets, the Rift allows for blending between them using a potentiometer. This allows users to dial in their desired fuzz tone, rather than being limited to two fixed settings.

The new 125B version of the Rift retains all the features of the previous version, except for the removal of the diode clipping switch. This change simplifies the layout, making it easier to build. However, the previous version of the Rift is still available for those who prefer the diode clipping switch option.

Overall, the Rift Octave Fuzz is a faithful recreation of the Univox Superfuzz, offering the classic fuzz tones and octave-up overtone made famous by Pete Townshend and other guitarists of the 1970s.
