Schematics, circuits, PCBs and veroboards for guitar effects pedals.
The Windbag is a re-designed version of the VFE Yodeler Delay/Reverb pedal. It has been converted to a smaller 125B layout with top-mounted input/output. The audio and switching circuitry are included on a single PCB, eliminating the need for an additional board. The parallel/series switch has been made into an external control.
The Yodeler was created to explore the possibilities of controlling the delay time within the BTDR-3H brick. The challenge was fitting all the necessary circuitry into a compact pedal. The Yodeler exceeded expectations, offering options for infinite or self-oscillating reverb with control over pre-delay, analog-voiced delay, spring-ish style reverb, and feeding the reverb from the delay repeats.
The Windbag retains the same controls as the Yodeler:
– DELAY: Sets the delay time from 25ms to 580ms. Blending the reverb in with a lower delay time creates a more spacious reverb sound.
– FDBK: Controls the amount of feedback/repeats in the delay. Cranking it up can lead to self-oscillation, especially when combined with reverb.
– D.MIX: Adjusts the volume of the wet delay mix. When R.MIX is off, it functions as a standard delay mix control.
– R.MIX: Adjusts the volume of the wet reverb mix. The blend of reverb depends on the P/S switch setting.
– HI/LOW DAMP: Sets the decay length of the brighter or darker trails of the BTDR-3H reverb.
– P/S: Switches between parallel (left) and series (right) modes for the reverb and delay. In parallel mode, they are independent. In series mode, the pre-delay of the reverb is controlled by the DELAY knob, and the reverb is added to each delay repeat.
– ENV: An optional switch that enables envelope-driven modulation of the delay, using a trick from Deadastronaut’s envelope mod.
