Schematics, circuits, PCBs and veroboards for guitar effects pedals.
The VH Drive Channel pedal aims to capture the iconic sound of the Ampeg VH-140C amplifier’s drive channel, which was highly popular among hardcore and metal bands in the 1990s. This pedal focuses solely on recreating the drive channel of the original amp, utilizing the same voltage as the original preamp.
The drive circuit of the VH-140C was so unique and influential that it was granted a patent in 1989, which prevented other companies from using the same gain stage design until 2009. This made it one of the few patented guitar audio circuits that remained in effect well into the 2000s. However, today, patent infringement is not a concern within the DIY guitar pedal community.
The VH Drive Channel pedal faithfully replicates the drive channel of the original amplifier, providing the same character and tone. While it can be used as a standalone drive pedal, it is optimized for driving a power amp directly, allowing guitarists to achieve the full sound and experience of the Ampeg VH-140C amplifier.
