The Violennz is a fuzz pedal based on the Dunlop Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face. It is a silicon transistor fuzz with some modifications to the stock design. The fuzz bypass cap has been changed to a combination of a 10uF and 4u7 capacitor to approximate the original value of 15uF. A bass contour pot has been added to control the bass response, allowing users to reduce the over-the-top bass often associated with fuzz. There is also an optional pulldown resistor that can be added.
The controls on the Violennz include:
– VOL: Controls the overall output volume of the pedal.
– GIRTH: Adjusts the bass response. Turning it counterclockwise greatly reduces the bass, while turning it clockwise keeps the stock setting.
– FUZZ: Controls the level of fuzz. The most useful settings are in the last 1/3rd of the pot, where the fuzz is highest. Rolling off the volume on your guitar can also yield different tonal variations.
– T1: This trimmer is used to set the bias voltage on the Q2 collector.
Overall, the Violennz offers a highly compressed fuzz sound similar to the one Eric Johnson is known for. The added modifications provide more control over the bass response and allow for different tonal variations.
