Sea Lion Compressor by PCB Guitar Mania

Walrus Audio’s Sea Lion Compressor is a four-knob beast designed to provide studio-grade compression in a guitar pedal. It is inspired by the performance of a classic FET leveling amplifier and the simplicity of vintage compression stompboxes. The Sea Lion is equipped with Level, Sustain, Attack, and Blend knobs, allowing for tremendous versatility. It is designed to operate with the IC LM13700 instead of the obsolete CA3080 that most of the compressors use. It is recommended to operate this circuit at 18v, but all the capacitors should be rated for more than 25V. The Level knob controls the output of the pedal, while the Sustain knob controls the amount of compression. The Attack knob lets you optimize compression for either low- or high-output instruments, and the Ratio knob acts as a blend knob, perfect for mixing in a portion of the uncompressed signal for a more natural sound. Additionally, the Trim1 attenuates the signal going into the LM13700, originally in this circuit, to compensate production differences of the original CA3080. On this build with the LM13700, this trim pot should not have that much importance; just place it in the middle and forget about it. Overall, the Walrus Audio Sea Lion Compressor is a great choice for guitarists and bassists looking for a studio-grade compressor in a pedal. With its four knobs and internal trim pot, it offers a great deal of versatility and control. It is designed to operate with the IC LM13700 and is recommended to be operated at 18v, but all the capacitors should be rated for more than 25V.
