Cadmus Dual Boost by Aion FX

The Cadmus Dual Boost is a pedal that consists of two identical MOSFET gain stages. These stages can be used independently or cascaded in series. It is based on the ZVEX Super Duper pedal, which is essentially two of their SHO (Super Hard On) boost circuits in series and switchable independently.

The SHO is a very simple MOSFET booster circuit that is compact in size. Even when two SHO circuits are combined in the Super Duper, it still has fewer components than most single effects pedals. The Super Duper is similar in concept to the Box of Rock pedal, which adds a third SHO stage and a tone control. However, the Cadmus Dual Boost is a two-stage clean boost, although it can achieve clipping when both stages are engaged.

The Cadmus Dual Boost is a direct clone of the Super Duper, with no additional features except for the inclusion of pull-down resistors on each input to help prevent popping noises. It is important to note that the gain controls on the Cadmus Dual Boost exhibit the characteristic “crackle” of the SHO circuit when adjusted. This is because the controls directly bias the MOSFETs, and it is considered normal behavior for this type of circuit.
