The Choral Reef is a chorus pedal that is based on the EHX Small Clone™ but with some unique features. It uses an MN3008 instead of an MN3007 BBD, which provides better headroom and a slightly better S/N ratio. This allows for different clocking options to achieve faux-flanger and chorus tones by switching through different timing caps.
The pedal has several controls that allow for a wide range of settings. The MIX control blends between the wet, modulated signal and the dry signal. It can be cranked up for a vibrato effect or set lower for a dripping, watery chorus.
The DEPTH control sets the depth of the modulation, with enough range to make you seasick. Turning it all the way down removes the modulation for unique doubling or short delay effects.
The SPEED control sets the speed of the modulation, from rapid warble to super-slow sweeping pitch-modulation.
The FEED control adds resonance and/or brightness to the modulation at short delay times, and increases the number of echo repeats at longer delay times.
The WIDTH control sets the delay time of the modulated signal. Shorter delay times produce flanger-esque tones, while longer times create quick slapback echoes.
The RANGE control sets the range of the WIDTH control. The middle position is for flanger-style tones, the right position is for medium range chorus, and the left position pushes the MN3008 to its limits for the longest delay times.
The LEVEL control sets the total output volume, and there is an internal trimmer for adjusting it. The BBD control sets the input bias of the MN3008, also with an internal trimmer.
