The Condor Cab Sim is a professional-quality 4×10 open-back speaker cabinet simulator designed for direct recording and headphone playing. It aims to outperform existing designs while still being accessible to DIY builders. The circuit is composed of several functional blocks, including a JFET amplifier for signal amplification and overdrive, a Bridged-T notch filter to produce the 400Hz notch found in the P10R response, a high-pass filter to simulate the low frequency rolloff of the speaker cabinet, and a low-pass filter to simulate the high frequency rolloff of a guitar speaker.
The Condor can be modified to reproduce the frequency response of the Marshall speaker simulator by replacing certain components. The modifications include changing the values of capacitors and resistors in the Bridged-T notch filter, high-pass filter, and low-pass filters. These modifications result in a different frequency response curve that approximates the Marshall speaker simulator.
Another modification that can be made to the Condor is adding a Notch Depth Switch. This switch allows for toggling between two modes – one with the stock notch depth and one with a decreased notch depth. By adding and removing capacitors in parallel with the notch caps, the notch depth can be adjusted to approximate the Marshall response. This modification adds midrange content, more treble frequencies, and increased overall output.
