Convex Parallel Compressor by Aion FX

The Convex Parallel Compressor is a clone of the highly sought-after Dinosaural OTC-201 Opticompressor, which was designed by Dan Coggins, the former engineer and circuit designer for Lovetone. The OTC-201 was produced in limited quantities from 2013 to 2016 and is now extremely rare. Despite its rarity, those who have had the opportunity to try it have universally praised its performance. In fact, Ed O’Brien of Radiohead has even included the OTC-201 on his pedalboard.

The Convex Parallel Compressor faithfully replicates the original OTC-201 circuit, with two notable modifications. Firstly, the internal Mode switch has been relocated to the exterior of the pedal, allowing for more convenient switching between blend and direct modes. Secondly, the Convex offers the option to choose between true bypass or buffered bypass through an internal slide switch.

It’s worth noting that an updated version of the Opticompressor, called the Fat General, is currently available from ThorpyFX. This version, also designed in collaboration with Dan Coggins, retains the core circuit of the original but adds a treble control, enabling users to dial in a more jangly tone.

Overall, the Convex Parallel Compressor offers guitarists the opportunity to experience the highly regarded sound and performance of the rare and acclaimed Dinosaural OTC-201 Opticompressor, with the added convenience of external mode switching and the option to choose between true bypass and buffered bypass.
