The Gloomy Drive is a modern version of the DoomiDrive, inspired by the Univox Uni-Drive. While the name may suggest a dark and heavy sound, this pedal actually offers a more versatile range of tones, including traditional rock sounds that work well with slightly overdriven amplifiers. One of the key features of the Gloomy Drive is the ‘Bottom’ control, which allows you to gradually introduce more bass into your signal. This control can take you from a treble boost to a full, thick, and booming sound.Unlike the original Univox Uni-Drive, the Gloomy Drive does not use rare and hard-to-find transistors. Instead, it utilizes a combination of readily available 2N5088 and MPSA18 transistors. These transistors closely replicate the tone of the original Matsushita 2sc859 transistors. However, if you prefer to use different transistors, the PCB of the Gloomy Drive has extra pads to accommodate various pinouts.Overall, the Gloomy Drive offers a modern take on the classic Uni-Drive circuit, providing a versatile range of tones that work well with both clean and overdriven amplifiers.
