MegaHIWatt – Vintage HIWATT Amp Tone by Fuzzdog

The MegaHIWatt is a vintage-style amplifier tone pedal that is designed to replicate the iconic sounds of two classic Hiwatt™ amplifier tones from the 70s. The pedal features two different circuits, named NORTH and SOUTH, which are based on the tones of Pete Townsend from The Who’s ‘Live at Leeds’ album and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin’s performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 1970, respectively. The pedal is built on a single PCB, allowing for either the NORTH or SOUTH circuit to be created, but not both simultaneously. The NORTH circuit is simpler in both construction and tone shaping, featuring controls for Volume, Gain, Bass, and Treble. The tone controls in this circuit are highly interactive, meaning that adjusting one control may affect the others. On the other hand, the SOUTH circuit adds a Mid control, which introduces more interaction into the tone stack mix. This additional control allows for further customization of the tone. Both versions of the MegaHIWatt pedal are highly responsive to playing dynamics, meaning that they will accurately reflect the nuances and variations in your playing style. Whether you’re aiming to achieve the powerful and aggressive sound of Pete Townsend or the dynamic and versatile tone of Jimmy Page, the MegaHIWatt pedal can help shape your sound into something close to these classic amplifier tones.
