Mu Blaster high voltage FET boost/drive by Electronic Audio Experiments
The µ Blaster is a boost/overdrive pedal that is designed to slam the input of an amplifier. It converts a 9V power supply to about 27V, providing more headroom than other similar pedals. The pedal has its own unique character but operates as an extension of your amp.
The controls on the µ Blaster are as follows:
1. Volume: This control adjusts the output volume of the pedal. It can deliver a massive output, but caution should be exercised as high levels can potentially damage certain input stages.
2. Boost: The boost control adds additional saturation and presence to the sound. Turning it counterclockwise produces a clean and relatively dark tone, while turning it clockwise makes the sound brighter and moderately driven.
3. Filter: This control is a simple low-pass filter located at the output. It is useful for taming harmonic content that may result from high boost settings.
4. Depth: The depth control is an active bass control. Lower settings produce tones with lots of chime, similar to a rangemaster. Higher settings allow a significant amount of bass to pass through. At maximum depth and boost settings, there is an additional frequency boost in the 50-100Hz range, which is ideal for heavier styles of music.
