The Osiris Distortion/Sustainer is a modified version of the Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh Fuzz, which is itself based on the Big Muff circuit. The Osiris adds several features to enhance its versatility and tone shaping capabilities.
Firstly, an input impedance switch has been included at the front of the circuit. This allows you to adjust the signal level before the boost and clipping stages. By reducing the signal level, you can match it to high-output instruments or earlier pedals in your signal chain. Alternatively, you can decrease the overall signal level for more headroom and less clipping.
Secondly, a clipping switch has been added to control the type of diodes used in the second clipping stage. The stock Big Muff uses silicon diodes, which provide a familiar sound. However, the Osiris also offers the option to switch to germanium diodes. Germanium diodes produce a more compressed and distorted tone, with a softer and more rounded clipping waveform.
Lastly, a “High” control has been introduced to the bass side of the tone control rotation. This allows you to adjust the low-pass filter frequency, effectively restoring some of the high-end frequencies. With this feature, you no longer have to choose between a bass emphasis or treble emphasis, as you can find a balance that suits your preferences.
Overall, the Osiris Distortion/Sustainer offers a modified version of the Pharaoh Fuzz with added flexibility and tonal options. It allows you to tailor your sound to match your instrument, other pedals in your signal chain, and your personal preferences.
