The Perelandra Boost / Overdrive is a versatile pedal that faithfully recreates the Xotic BB Preamp. It offers a wide range of tones, from clean volume boost to smooth overdrive, thanks to its 2-band EQ.
The BB Preamp was first released in 2005 and is named after the Marshall Bluesbreaker amplifier, although it has no direct connection to the Bluesbreaker pedal. It is actually similar to the Ibanez Tube Screamer, but with the addition of an active Baxandall tone control before the output buffer. This allows for independent boosting or cutting of the treble and bass frequencies.
The Perelandra Boost / Overdrive is a redesign of the BB Preamp based on traces of several versions of the pedal. The PCB supports the standard BB Preamp (version 1.5), the AT (Andy Timmons) model, and the Bass BB Preamp. The documentation includes instructions for each variant, with the default being the version 1.5.
For those looking for a more advanced version, the Perelandra Deluxe is available. This hot-rodded version incorporates modifications from the Custom Shop models of the BB Preamp, including the “MB” (mid boost) and “Comp” versions. While the Deluxe version can emulate the 1.5 or AT models with the right control settings, it does not support the bass version.
Overall, the Perelandra Boost / Overdrive is a highly flexible and versatile pedal that faithfully recreates the Xotic BB Preamp. Whether you’re looking for a clean volume boost or a smooth overdrive, this pedal has you covered.
