Sonic Tight’un Distortion by Fuzzdog

The Sonic Tight’un Distortion is a compact pedal that offers a high amount of gain while maintaining a tight and focused tone. It is based on the Sonic Titan and features a FET preamp into power amp distortion. The FET stage of the pedal produces tube-like clipping, resulting in responsive dynamics. The power amp section then takes this compressed tone and pushes it to its limits, creating an output that your amplifier will crave. To ensure the best performance, the pedal uses a 2N5457 in the FET stage. Although the original 2N3819 can be used, the 5457 is more readily available. If you prefer the 2N3819, you can still use it, but it may require some modifications to fit properly. For improved note decay and a more open feel, the LM386N-3 is chosen over the N-1 in the power amp section. This choice enhances the pedal’s ability to push your amplifier. The original design of the Sonic Tight’un Distortion cuts out a significant amount of bottom end to achieve its tightness. However, an option has been added to increase the value of certain capacitors, resulting in a thicker tone. If you choose this option, the pedal will come with additional sockets and six extra capacitors.Overall, the Sonic Tight’un Distortion offers a high-gain, tight, and focused tone with tube-like clipping and excellent dynamics. With the added option to thicken the tone, it provides versatility for different playing styles.
