UBE Screamer by Aion FX

The UBE Screamer circuit uses CMOS hex inverters to achieve a similar tonal character to the Ibanez Tube Screamer. CMOS hex inverters have lower open-loop gain and different clipping characteristics compared to op-amps, but they can still produce a similar sound.

The circuit of the UBE Screamer is different from the Tube Screamer, but it occupies a similar tonal space. It has been inspired by Craig Anderton’s Tube Sound Fuzz circuit, the Way Huge Red Llama, and the Electro-Harmonix Hot Tubes.

The Aion FX version of the UBE Screamer includes two modifications. The first is a clipping diode switch, which allows you to choose between different clipping options. This can affect the amount of distortion and the overall character of the pedal.

The second modification is a switch to change the global feedback resistor. The original Runoffgroove article suggests selecting this resistor based on whether you’ll be using single coil pickups or humbuckers. By putting it on a switch, the pedal can be easily adjusted for different pickup configurations without the need for soldering.

Overall, the UBE Screamer is a unique design that aims to replicate the sound of the Tube Screamer using CMOS hex inverters. With the added modifications, it offers flexibility and versatility for different playing styles and pickup configurations.
