The Deadringer2022 is an expansion of the mbp FD-1™ OneShot project or an FD-2™ with mods. It is similar to the OneShot but includes the boost channel of the FD-2™. The boost function increases the gain in the feedback loop of the circuit’s IC, with the boost amount depending on the clipping diodes used. The circuit is essentially a TS (or SD-1) with additional features. The “Flat Mids” mode allows for a reduction in the mid-range hump.
The controls on the Deadringer2022 include VOL, TONE, and DRIVE, which are standard overdrive controls. There is also a BOOST control, which functions as a secondary channel/gain setting and can be used as a solo boost. The MID control is a trimmer that adjusts the Flat Mids setting, with the stock setting at 3/4 up. Lower settings reduce gain and EQ flatness.
There are two three-position switches on the Deadringer2022. The SLM switch selects between Silicon, LED, or Mosfet clipping. The CFV switch selects between Vintage, Flat Mids, or “Comp Cut” clipping modes. The Vintage and Flat modes work with all three clipping options on the SLM switch, while the Comp Cut mode disables the SLM switch completely, meaning no clipping diodes are used.
It’s important to note that the four different clipping modes have different output volumes, with the output increasing in the order of Si, Mos, LED, and “CC”. Adjustments to the VOL control may be necessary when switching between clipping modes.
