Deimos Germanium Fuzz by Aion FX

The Deimos Germanium Fuzz is a clone of the Sola Sound Tone Bender Mk. II, a legendary fuzz pedal that revolutionized the music world. Produced and sold by Macaris in London in the late 1960s, it was one of the pioneers of guitar effects pedals and had a significant impact on both music and electronics.

The Tone Bender Mk. II differed from its predecessor, the Fuzz Face, by incorporating a single-transistor boost/buffer stage before the fuzz circuit. This addition increased the drive level and improved compatibility with other effects pedals used before it.

The Deimos Germanium Fuzz faithfully reproduces the Tone Bender Professional Mk. II but with a notable enhancement. It includes a voltage inverter, allowing it to be powered with a standard center-negative adapter while maintaining the positive-ground operation of the original pedal. The PCB also features trim pots, enabling users to adjust the bias without the need to swap out resistors.

Furthermore, the updated 125B version of the Deimos includes a toggle switch that bypasses the first transistor stage. This conversion transforms the pedal into the previous version of the Tone Bender, often referred to as the “1.5.” Although there is a minor difference in one capacitor’s value between the two circuits, it has minimal impact on the overall sound.
