The Aion FX IVP Preamp is a pedal conversion of the Intersound® Instrument Voicing Preamplifier, a popular rack unit from the late 1970s. The IVP Preamp is known for its unique “Tube Voice” drive channel, which uses a combination of op-amp gain, a transistor amplifier, and a transformer to achieve its overdrive tone. The IVP also features six EQ bands, including four semi-parametric and two Baxandall EQs.
The Aion FX IVP Preamp is a direct clone of the original rackmounted unit, but in a pedal format. It runs on the same voltage as the original and includes footswitches to toggle between the Clean and Tube Voice channels, as well as bypass the unit entirely. While the pedal does not include the two effects loops found in the original rack unit, these can be added with some modifications.
The Isotope Amp Overdrive is another project based on the IVP, but it is a simplified version that only includes the Tube Voice channel and a 2-band Baxandall EQ. While it lacks the parametric EQ and clean channel of the full IVP, it still captures the unique overdrive tone of the original.
Please note that Intersound®, Instrument Voicing Preamp™, and IVP™ are trademarks of Aion FX.
