Triton Mk. III Preamp Drive by Aion FX

The Triton Preamp Drive Mk. III is a versatile pedal that is based on the Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret Mk. III and Formula 5F6. It is designed to emulate the classic Marshall amplifiers from the 1960s.

The Triton PCB allows you to build either the Dirty Little Secret or the 5F6, as well as the hotter “Red” special edition of the Dirty Little Secret. It features two discrete toggle switches that allow you to switch the gain and tone stacks independently, giving you more control over your tone.

This pedal can be used as a preamp or an overdrive pedal. It is very reactive to what comes before it, making it best placed after other drive pedals but before modulation effects. However, it also generates enough drive on its own and can be used as a standalone overdrive pedal.

The original Dirty Little Secret Mk. III used MPF4393 JFETs, which are no longer produced. However, the Triton PCB is designed to accommodate surface-mount JFETs (MMBF4393), which are still in production and perform identically to the original JFETs used in Catalinbread pedals.

The Triton Mk. III is also compatible with the 18V Voltage Doubler / Bypass module, allowing you to run the circuit at 18V without an external adapter. This higher voltage provides increased volume and clarity.

Overall, the Triton Preamp Drive Mk. III is a versatile and flexible pedal that captures the essence of classic Marshall amplifiers and offers a range of tonal options.
